Twilighters is a club within a club. Back in 1980 some tennis club members had the bright idea of starting an interclub social competition for the male members.
Teams were selected and matches played on a Wednesday night over the summer at various members’ home courts and at the club. We were limited to daylight hours as there were only two lit courts at the club.
A round robin format allowed each team to play one another with teams selected to even up the competition. After the sun went down, we all traveled back to the club for the compulsory refreshments and BBQ with the die hards continuing to play under lights. The refreshment sessions often went fairly late and generally a great time was had by all. The season ended with a grand final night between the top two teams.
The Annual Trip
Someone suggested we should also have a trip away and these soon became legendary. Various Riverina towns, resorts and even the casino at Launceston were visited by busloads of fellows intent on a good time. The Twilighters tradition was forged and has continued for 25 years.
The Place to Meet
The Twilighters concept is the envy of other local tennis clubs and has become stronger each season. It is established as the place to meet 90% of the male population of Park Orchards on a Wednesday night and has become an integral part of the POTC membership by providing financial and managerial support to the club.
